Buttery Sugar Cookies Recipe

This dough is easy to work with - it has no baking powder - so the cookies bake smooth and flat - without any small bumps. It makes decorating easier. This is a recipe from my late mother. Every year she made dozens of cookies at Christmas time to share with family and friends. I’ve carried on her tradition.

Ingredients
1 C. butter
1 C. granulated sugar
1 egg
3 Tbs. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 C. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In large mixer bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg, milk and vanilla. Mix well. Combine flour and salt; add to butter mixture 1 cup at a time, mixing after each addition. Chill dough for 3-4 hours for easier handling. On a floured surface, roll dough to approximately 1/4-inch thickness. Dip cookie cutter in flour before each use. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet 6-7 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned around edges. Cool cookies on rack. When cool, decorate as desired.
