Under Distinctly Christmas Cookies+ Sugar Cookies
This dough is easy to work with - it has no baking powder - so the cookies bake smooth and flat - without any small bumps. It makes decorating easier. This is a recipe from my late mother. Every year she made dozens of cookies at Christmas time to share with family and friends. I’ve carried on her tradition.

1 C. butter
1 C. granulated sugar
1 egg
3 Tbs. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 C. flour
1/4 tsp. salt

Ingredients
1/4 C. butter, softened
1 8-oz. pkg. cream cheese
1 egg
1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
1 pkg. yellow cake mix
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cream together the butter, cream cheese, egg, and vanilla extract. Add in the cake mix 1/3 at a time so that mixing is easier. Spoon mix onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes.

Ingredients
3/4 C. margarine, softened
2 Tbs. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. low-calorie sugar substitute
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 C. flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 Tbs. poppy seed
1/2 C. low sugar preserve or spread
Directions
In a bowl with hand mixer, cream margarine and low-calorie brown sugar. Beat in egg, vanilla. Stir in flour, baking powder and poppy seeds. Shape into a ball, cover and chill about 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Shape dough into 24 balls. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet. Press thumbprint in center of cookie, make a deep indentation. Bake 15 minutes, then remove from oven. Fill each with a tap of preserves and return to oven for 3 minutes. Cool on cookie sheet 10 inutes. Transfer to wire rack and cook completely.

Ingredients
1 C. butter or margarine
1/2 C. sugar, 3 oz. cream cheese
1 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 C. flour, colored sugar
Directions
Cream butter, sugar and cream cheese. Add vanilla and flour. Form dough into a long roll and coat with colored sugar. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill until firm. Cut in slices about 1/4″ thick and bake at 350 F for 10 to 12 minutes.

Soft and moist cut out cookie passed down from my Great Great Grandmother. Appearance is soft and puffy. Cookie itself is not too sweet. The cream cheese frosting adds to the overall flavor but doesn’t hide the good honey taste. Cut out shapes and frost and decorate for your favorite holiday!

1/2 C. white granulated sugar
1/2 C. light brown sugar
2 eggs
1 C. honey
1 C. sour cream
6 C. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda

Ingredients
2/3 C. shortening
2/3 C. granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 small box instant banana pudding
2 1/2 C. all-purpose flour, divided
Directions
Cream the shortening and the sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Stir in the vanilla extract, baking powder and salt. Add the dry instant banana pudding powder. Mix in 2 C. of the flour; add the remaining 1/2 C. only if needed. Cover dough and chill for at least 2 hours or overnight.

Ingredients
1 C. butter, softened
2/3 C. packed brown sugar
1 egg
2 C. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 C. pecan halves
Directions
In a large bowl, cream butter, brown sugar and egg. Mix until well blended. Slowly add flour and salt and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Roll one inch pieces of dough into balls and place 2 inches apart on cookie sheets. Flatten balls with the bottom of a glass dipped in flour. Press a pecan into top of dough. Bake 10-12 minutes until lightly colored.

Ingredients
1/2 C. confectioners’ sugar
2 C. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. ground ginger
1 C. cold butter, sliced
1/2 C. chopped candied ginger
Directions
Combine the sugar, flour and ground ginger. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or fork. Finish mixing with your hands to make sure all the butter is worked in. When mixture holds together work in the candied ginger. Press the shortbread into an ungreased 9-inch square pan, about 1/2-inch thick. Prick through to bottom of the dough with a fork. Bake at 300 degrees for 50-60 minutes. While warm, cut into desired shapes with a sharp serrated knife.

These cookies are very different than your typical cookie because they bake in a waffle iron! It adds a fun texture to an already delicious cookie.

Ingredients
1 lb. butter melted
5 C. sugar
4 oz brandy
6 ea. eggs, beaten
8 C. flour, all-purpose
1 Tbs. salt
1 Tbs. vanilla extract
Directions
Mix melted butter, sugar, brandy, salt in large bowl. Stir in beaten eggs and vanilla. Then add flour and mix very well. Chill over night. Roll out into strips, cut to size and have fun cooking with the iron.
Yield: around 162 cookies
